Seizure
Help someone having a seizure stay safe — clear the area, time the seizure, and protect the airway.
- 1Clear the area
Move sharp or hard objects away. Cushion their head.
- 2Time it
Note when the seizure starts. If it lasts more than 5 minutes, call emergency services.
- 3Do not restrain
Never hold them down or put anything in their mouth.
- 4Recovery position
Once shaking stops, gently roll them on their side to keep airway clear.
- 5Stay with them
Reassure them as they wake up — they may be confused.
