Seizure

Help someone having a seizure stay safe — clear the area, time the seizure, and protect the airway.

  1. 1
    Clear the area

Move sharp or hard objects away. Cushion their head.

  2. 2
    Time it

Note when the seizure starts. If it lasts more than 5 minutes, call emergency services.

  3. 3
    Do not restrain

Never hold them down or put anything in their mouth.

  4. 4
    Recovery position

Once shaking stops, gently roll them on their side to keep airway clear.

  5. 5
    Stay with them

Reassure them as they wake up — they may be confused.
